Allergology

Allergology is a branch of medicine that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases. An allergist is a medical specialist who diagnoses, treats, and prevents allergic reactions and diseases. He or she also provides allergy counseling, assists patients in identifying allergens and developing an individualized treatment plan. An allergist may use a variety of diagnostic methods, such as skin tests, blood tests for allergies, and immunotherapy to reduce allergic reactions in patients.

The prevalence of allergic diseases in the world continues to grow, and Ukraine is no exception. A competent specialist is needed to diagnose and treat allergic diseases.

Symptoms of allergic diseases:

Skin manifestations (symptoms): various rashes, itching, redness, swelling.

Itching and stinging in the eyes, redness of the eyes, lacrimation, swelling of the eyelids.

Diagnosis of diseases by an allergist

Diagnosis of allergies depends primarily on the clinical history that an allergist takes during a consultation. There are general clinical diagnostic methods, instrumental methods, and allergy-specific testing. The allergist will determine which diagnostic methods you need. We recommend that you undergo examination as prescribed by your doctor.

General clinical diagnostic methods in allergology:

general blood test;

biochemical blood tests;

general urine analysis.

These tests must be taken on an empty stomach, the laboratory is located in building 1 of the Med-Atlante Medical Center.

Instrumental methods used in allergology

spirometry;

chest X-ray;

Ultrasound of abdominal organs.

Allergy-specific testing involves several methods, you do not need to take all of them at the same time, the allergist will select the necessary one. Such testing is necessary to find the causative allergen or allergens. Methods:

1. Elimination tests – elimination or exclusion of contact with the allergen. This method is often used by a doctor to diagnose food allergies.

2. Patch testing is a method successfully used to diagnose contact allergy.

3. The test for specific IgE to allergens is a simple and safe method that can be performed on almost everyone, with few contraindications.

4. ALEX-test is a modern multicomponent test for 295 allergens. This test provides comprehensive information on 99% of all clinically important allergens and allergenic molecules.

Methods of treatment of allergic diseases

Drug treatment is the prescription of medications to reduce the manifestations of allergic reactions and their consequences.
ASIT therapy (allergen-specific immunotherapy) is a special new treatment method in which an extract of an allergen to which a person is sensitive is injected into the human body. The course begins with microdoses and gradually, as the body gets used to it, the concentration increases.

ASIT therapy offers a significant advantage over other methods, because it acts not on the symptom of the disease, but on the cause. With it, we train the body to react differently to the allergen. The clinical efficacy of ASIT therapy is 80-90%, which is a very high rate for people, and there is also a possibility of complete recovery from allergic diseases. The course of treatment is long, from three to five years, and requires patient discipline and the support of a highly qualified specialist – an allergist.
