The first visit of a pregnant woman to a doctor is, as a rule, the longest in time and involves:

History collection;

Filling out medical documentation, including exchange card and “pregnant questionnaire”.

General and obstetric examination;

In the “pregnant questionnaire”, a woman provides detailed information about herself to predict possible risks of pregnancy complications. In case of woman’s concealing certain disease which may later affect the development of the fetus, the doctor is not responsible for this.

How the first appointment and registration of a pregnant woman are conducted at MDC “Med-Atlant”

If being more specific about the physical examination of a woman during pregnancy monitoring, the first visit to an obstetrician-gynecologist includes:

Measurement of your height and body weight;

Measurement of the arterial blood pressure which is monitored during subsequent visits;

Control and examination of external genitalia;

Internal examination of the vagina and cervix (using mirrors);

Examination of the pelvic organs;

Control of the lower extremities from the point of view of the appearance of bumps (on the legs) and swelling (tumors from excessive fluid in the tissues), which serves for comparison at subsequent visits;

Evaluation of the size of the bony pelvis;

Examination and palpation of mammary glands;

Auscultation of the heart and lungs;

Palpation of the thyroid gland.

Lifestyle recommendations during pregnancy are discussed with the doctor:

The need to quit smoking, if there is such a habit; refusal to drink alcohol.

Balance of rest and physical activity – provided there are no complications, physical exercises of medium strength, the importance of a full sleep and avoiding overtiredness are recommended.

Diet and vitamins – with adequate nutrition, the body receives most of the necessary vitamins from food, but a doctor, taking into account the needs of the pregnant woman, may prescribe additional medications (folic acid, vitamin C, etc.) to prevent malformations of the child.

Recommendations for ultrasound examination during the entire period of pregnancy management in the MDC “Med-Atlant” in Ivano-Frankivsk:

The first ultrasound examination is done in the period from 11 weeks and 1 day to 13 weeks and 6 days.
The second – during 18-21 weeks of pregnancy.
The third planned ultrasound is appointed individually.
