Folliculometry

In order to successfully conceive, a good egg and sperm are necessary. Many women think that pregnancy can occur at any point in the menstrual cycle, but this is not true. Fertilization is not possible without ovulation, which occurs only once during the month. This occurs during the first phase of the menstrual cycle, when a follicle in the right or left ovary (or both) matures, from which an egg cell emerges. To ensure successful fertilization, follicle maturation monitoring is performed, called folliculometry.

FOLLICULOMETRY PROCEDURE IN IVANO-FRANKIVSK

Observation is carried out using ultrasound in Ivano-Frankivsk, using a vaginal sensor during the first phase of the menstrual cycle from days 9 to 16, every 2-3 days. The bladder should be empty for this procedure. After removing the lower underwear, the woman lies on the couch with her knees bent, a disposable condom is placed on the sensor, which is then inserted into the vagina, and the ultrasound doctor can see:

  • the size of the ovaries;
  • the presence of follicles, their number and size;
  • the presence of a dominant follicle and its size;
  • changes in the structure and growth of follicles;
  • the presence of the corpus luteum;
  • the presence of fluid in the uterine cavity;
  • endometrial thickness.
HOW TO CORRECTLY INTERPRET THE CONCLUSION OF FOLLICULOMETRY:
Normal ovulation Toggle Button
1-2 dominant follicles are present in the ovaries (no less than 15 mm and no more than 24 mm)
The follicle ruptures, and a corpus luteum appears in its place
Free fluid is visualized behind the uterus
Follicle persistence means that the follicle has matured but ovulation has not occurred. Toggle Button
A follicle with a diameter of 18-24 mm is observed for a long time
There is no free fluid behind the uterus
No corpus luteum has formed
Follicular cyst occurs when the follicle grows larger than 25 mm and does not ovulate. Toggle Button
A follicle of 25 mm or more
There is no free fluid behind the uterus
No corpus luteum has formed
Luteinization of the follicle occurs when the follicle forms but does not ovulate, and a corpus luteum still forms in its place. Toggle Button
Follicles of various sizes
It gradually decreases in size
Free fluid is absent
No follicle development: Toggle Button
Small follicles that do not grow
No corpus luteum present
No dominant follicle
P.S. Folliculometry is one of the simplest and painless procedures that does not require special preparation. The only downside is that it should be done strictly according to a schedule and requires repeated application.
